Business Improvement Services: Innovation management system provides the framework for DEWA to respond to UAE Vision 2021

As a Government body, DEWA recognised the importance of adopting a forward thinking strategy to support the UAE Vision 2021.

While innovation has always been an essential focus area, the challenge was making it a central theme that would influence all future strategic decisions. DEWA has developed its Innovation Strategy to steer all their efforts with a clear agenda supported by the key innovation enablers required to implement the strategy. DEWA is certified by Lloyd’s Register (LR) to IT Service Management System standard ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011. Based on this successful existing relationship, DEWA engaged LR to find a solution that would bring innovation to the forefront.

Following significant research, LR identified the European innovation management system standard CEN 16555-1:2013 as a solution that would provide DEWA with the guiding principles to achieve their goals and implement a management system tailored to promote innovation internally.
