LRQA ISO Standards Update - New Guidance Material released by the ISO TC 176 to support ISO 9001:2015 implementation

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) TC 176 has recently released free to download documents on guidance in relation to the requirements for Documented Information within the revised international quality management system standard ISO 9001: 2015 – currently set for publication later this year.

ISO TC 176 is the technical committee within ISO responsible for standardisation in the field of quality management (generic quality management systems and supporting technologies), as well as quality management standardisation in specific sectors at the request of the affected sector and the ISO Technical Management Board.

“The nature and type of Documented Information that an organisation needs to maintain or retain is dependent on the context and its operating environment,” said Richard Crute Morris, LRQA Assessment Services Capability Development Manager.

“The way Documented Information is defined in the current publicly available draft of ISO 9001:2015 provides more scope for an organisation to determine what is appropriate for its unique set of circumstances, rather than just following a prescriptive format.  Put simply, Documented Information should reflect the focus of ISO 9001:2015 on the organisational processes and results, rather than conformance with each element of the standard.”

With all the major ISO standards being revised, LRQA is at the forefront of communicating the changes. We offer a range of assessment services as well public and in-house training courses, all aimed at helping to ensure that organisations worldwide have a smooth transition to the new standards.
