In conjunction with Earth Day, a dedicated team of LRQA Singapore staff traded the comfort of their warm beds for the scorching sun in an effort to save our fragile earth.

Rising with the sun on Saturday 24 April 2010, the team gathered in Pulau Ubin, which is situated just off the northeastern corner of mainland Singapore. The team was guided by staff from the National Parks Board (NParks) to an area of the shoreline known as Ketam Beach.

The sight that greeted the team was a sorry one. The beach was littered with every unimaginable kind of rubbish that has been washed ashore and those discarded by ignorant beach goers without a thought for the consequences of their actions. Working with the NParks staff, the team worked tirelessly to clean up Ketam Beach. The ‘reward’ for our hard work was a visibly cleaner beach and several bags of rubbish which would be properly disposed by NParks. We left Ketam Beach with a sense of achievement that our efforts that day, albeit on a small scale, did make a difference.

We are planning to work closely with NParks to organise bigger beach-cleaning or other similar projects in which more staff can participate. We hope that this one small step will spark a chain reaction and generate a greater sense of responsibility among us that Mother Earth urgently needs our help.

Together we CAN save the environment!
