GFSI BENCHMARKS FSSC 22000

27/05/2009

FSSC 22000, the first global scheme that uses ISO 22000 to help assure food safety specifically within the food manufacturing sector.

In a press release issued today by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), the GFSI Board of Directors announced that it has benchmarked FSSC 22000, the first global scheme that uses ISO 22000 to help assure food safety specifically within the food manufacturing sector.

The FSSC scheme is based on the internationally recognized standard ISO 22000 and the recently developed PAS 220 specification. Together, ISO 22000 and PAS 220 integrate additional auditing protocol required to meet GFSI requirements.

The GFSI Board has granted conditional recognition of FSSC 22000 as a result of the scheme meeting the GFSI Guidance Document Version 5 requirements, and the Board is now encouraging the Foundation for Food Safety Certification (the FSSC’s scheme owner) to move the scheme towards full implementation. Once fully implemented, FSSC 22000 is expected to become the sixth standard recognized by the GFSI.

Certification in the Food Manufacturing Sector

Within the food manufacturing sector in particular, there has been a convergence of food safety through the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). In an effort to further drive this convergence, key industry stakeholders have worked together to harmonize a global standard for safe food manufacturing, complimenting ISO 22000 and recognized by the GFSI.

This free OnDemand Webinar from LRQA introduces PAS 220, the specific pre-requisite programs to be used in conjunction with ISO 22000, and FSSC 22000, the new global standard specific to helping assure safe food manufacturing.
